Focus and ScopeAffirmations: of the modern is an open access journal seeking to publish the best and most innovative work in the study of modernist cultures. We work hard to publish work quickly, online, while under the strict conditions of double-blind peer review. In an increasingly crowded field, Affirmations stands up for more openly theoretical and political work, and places an emphasis on interventions and occasional polemics. Previous issues have included work by a mix of eminent and emerging scholars, on a very wide range of topics. We welcome submissions from authors at all levels of employment, and indeed from outside the university sector, provided the work is compelling, original, and scrupulously executed. We encourage work on people and places outside the hegemonic centres of modernist culture, and especially from women, people of colour, and working-class intellectuals.
The journal is published online as a continuous volume and issue throughout the year. Articles are made available as soon as they are ready to ensure that there are no unnecessary delays in getting content publically available.
Special collections of articles are welcomed and will be published as part of the normal issue, but also within a separate collection page.
